The tips for research tab serves as a tool for students to learn about research skills which will help them navigate through their research projects. Each research skill includes worksheets, a PowerPoint slide and ASL video and they are to enhance their research skills and experience.
There are five different tips for research tabs which include: How to Trust Information Sources Online, Data Collection, Survey Interview Questions, Cause & Effect, and Excel Tutorial.
How to Trust Information Sources Online explains how to detect credible sources and the difference between fact and opinion. Students will complete a KWL chart, participate in group discussion and create a poster regarding bad/good source, fact and opinion.
Data Collection explains the importance of data collection and six methods of data collection. Students will take notes in their worksheet and participate in a group discussion.
Survey Interview Questions demonstrates the six steps in identifying the topic's problems and solutions to developing survey interview questions to interviewing participants to creating 2-D pie charts of their data. Students will use Survey Interview Questions Guidelines to complete the six steps.
Cause & Effect defines one of the most important science concept of cause and effect and provides examples of it. Students will complete a KWL chart and Climate Change Project: Cause & Effect Worksheet. There is an additional cause and effect worksheet for students to practice more.
Excel Tutorial is an ASL tutorial video to show students how to insert their 5 questions, data from survey interviews, and create 2-D pie charts on Excel. They can also copy and paste the 2-D pie charts from Excel for their research projects.
