Pre Test: Students will participate in a pre-test where they will be filmed answering the questions: "What do you know about climate change? What do you think we should do about it?" in ASL.
Unit 1: How we harm the Earth?
This unit is focused on identifying the actions we do to harm the Earth, the different signs of climate change, the extent of damage on divergent ecosystems (micro environment), and how we mitigate to minimize humans' impact on Earth.
Lesson 1: Identifying the Signs of Climate Change
Students will identify different causes and effects of climate change (deforestation, overproduction, pollution and trash).
Lesson 3: Describing the Human Damage on Divergent Ecosystems
Students will describe the history of the damage on divergent ecosystems.
Lesson 2: Explaining Human Impacts (causes)
Students will explain the consequences of human damage (global warming - melting ice cap, coral bleaching, rising sea levels, severe weather and drought).
Lesson 4: Proposing Mitigation
Students will propose a mitigation plan to minimize damage on Earth.
Unit 2: How our consequences harm us?
This unit is focused on how the consequences of our actions and how the actions as a result have harmed us, our animals and our planet. Students will analyze evidence of climate change, summarize macro environment impacts on humans, argue political and social responses, and create call to action plan.
Lesson 5: Analyzing Evidence of Climate Change
Students will analyze evidence of climate change in pictures and texts.
Lesson 7: Arguing Political and Social Responses
Students will describe people who are involved in climate change and argue political and social responses.
Lesson 6: Summarizing Impact on Humans
Students will summarize macro environment impacts on humans (global warming- melting of ice cap, coral bleaching, rising sea levels, severe weather, and drought).
Lesson 8: Creating Call to Action Plan
Students will identify examples of call to action (i.e. flyer, PSA, petition, letter) and create a call to action plan on the issue they picked.
Post Test: Students will participate in a post-test to see how their answers have progressed from the beginning to the end of curriculum. They will answer the questions: "What do you know about climate change? What do you think we should do about it?" in ASL.
