We love competing in all types of dog sports! Whether it is conformation, obedience, rally, agility, tricks, scent work, barn hunt, or Fast CAT, we are all in! We are always open to trying new things and new sports. Our future goals include competing in a PWD Water Trial sometime in the future. For now, we are enjoying the sports that we currently have access to during this Covid Pandemic.
This portion of our website is currently under reconstruction! Soon we will hopefully have different subpages for each of the sports that we love! Please enjoy our photos as we move to reorganize this section.
All the Cindel dogs love to run and chase the "bunny." Brinkley, Maya, and Pumbaa have had the opportunity to compete in the sport of AKC Fast CAT which is a wonderful extension of their inherited prey drive.
Fast CAT is basically the 100 yard dash for dogs with an added bonus of having a lure to chase. Who doesn't love chasing a bunny or a floating plastic bag? In Fast CAT the dogs chase a lure that is usually a white plastic bag attached to a pulley system.
Dogs with a great prey drive love this sport. For more information check out Fast CAT on the AKC Website.
Barn Hunt is a fun sport for both the dog and the handler. It is all about teamwork and finding how to work with your dog to achieve a goal. The goal is to find the rat, climb the straw bales, and go through the tunnel. It may sound easy but it does take teamwork and some practice to be able to complete all three tasks in the 2 minute time frame (for the novice level). The handler must read the dogs signals as they hunt and must make the decision to call "RAT" when they think their dog has found the rat.
Most of the errors or NQ's in this sport are due to handler error. This sport is so much fun for dogs that love to follow a scent and are curious. A great prey drive is also a plus. You can find information about Barn Hunt on the Barn Hunt Association Website.
All of the Cindel dogs have had the opportunity to participate in this wonderful sport.
Conformation is all about the dog, or at least it should be. At a conformation show the judge is comparing the dog to the breed standard. The judge awards the dogs that most closely fit the breed standard. This is the venue that breeders and dog enthusiasts have traditionally used to evaluate potential breeding stock. Conformation is the ultimate contest of beauty, athleticism, personality, and structure. You can find more information about dog conformation on the AKC website. You can find more information about the PWD breed standard on the PWDCA website.
Agility is one of our favorite dog sports. It was the sport that lured me into the dog show world after my years of showing llamas in halter and performance classes. I always wanted a "show" dog, but I also wanted a canine athlete.
I have spent many years training my dogs to compete in sports, and agility is the sport that I have loved training for and competing in. It is also the sport that I need to work on the most at this point. Reina was my first agility dog and she has competed and earned several agility titles. Maya has also trained to compete in agility but has never competed due to having puppies.
I hope to get back into agility with my younger dogs, Brinkley and Pumbaa. It is definitely a sport that we love being part of. If you want to learn more about AKC Agility please check out their website.
Pumbaa has completed his Agility Foundations 1 training and has begun Agility Foundations 2. We are having so much fun on this new adventure together!
Thank you to our wonderful trainers at Go Over Rover for all their guidance and support!
Brinkley, Maya, and Reina have all enjoyed training at Go Over Rover. They all enjoy participating in agility training.
Cindel puppies all enjoy playing on the puppy agility equipment. We use wobble boards, tunnels, a mini dog walk, and a puppy teeter totter with our puppies.
Rally is a sport that is linked to dog obedience. It is all about the teamwork between the handler and the dog and is similar to all the basic principles and skills of basic dog obedience.
I started competing in Rally because I wasn't quite ready to figure out what to do to compete in obedience. Frankly, I am not sure that I will ever be excited to compete in the obedience ring but I do enjoy competing in AKC Rally.
The Rally ring is set up with a series of cards that tell the handler what obedience movements they need to do to complete the task. It is definitely a fun series of tasks for both the dog and the handler to complete. If you would like to find out more about AKC Rally, please check out the AKC website.
Reina and Maya have enjoyed exploring the world of Rally. We have only gone to a few trials but the girls have both earned their novice titles. We hope to have more opportunities to compete in the future.
The Cindel Crew are all holders of the AKC Star Puppy award and AKC Canine Good Citizen title (CGC). Reina and Maya have also earned their Community Canine titles (CGCA).
We enjoyed participating in the PWDCGC Pond Puppy training this past year. Miss Bayla and I attended the dry-land training in April and the water training at Lake Andrea each weekend over the summer months. We participated in the PWDCGC Water Trial in August and had a blast. Even though we weren't quite ready to compete, we learned so much and can't wait to do it again next year.
We love training and competing in AKC Scent Work. Scent Work is a sport that you should begin training for with a great trainer. After you learn about the sport, it is a fun game and training that you can do at home if you have the supplies.
Scent work is a thinking game that you can play with your dog to help them continue to "work" throughout their day. It is a game that you can play in your home, outside, or in other areas that you have access to.
I play Scent Work games with my dogs at home on a weekly basis. I also try to take my dogs to training opportunities or clinics that will help them (and me) to get better at the sport.
Please message me for more information about starting AKC Scent Work with your dog.
