Points to consider about participating in DE courses:
Students are responsible for submitting the DE application and coordinating any orientation activities, advising appointments, or placement testing required by the college/university. School Counselors are available to assist with the application process but may not submit applications on a student’s behalf.
Most all communication from the college/university is electronic. Students participating in DE courses should have reliable email addresses and make a habit of checking email accounts daily for distributed information.
DE students are treated as any other typical undergraduate student. Students will be the main point of contact for questions and concerns, not parents/guardians.
For issues with coursework, students should contact DE instructors or advisors directly. CHS does not have access to any college/university databases or gradebooks.
Students are responsible for maintaining access to any college/university learning management systems (Blackboard or D2L). For assistance accessing systems, students should reach out directly to instructors and campus tech support.
While a college/university may have their own enrollment/withdrawal deadlines, students must still adhere to their high school’s enrollment/withdrawal deadlines to avoid academic penalties. Students may withdraw from courses without penalty during the first 5 days of the semester.
While a college/university may allow students to enroll in a variety of courses, not all courses count for dual credit. Only courses approved by the SC Department of Education may count for dual credit and be displayed on a high school transcript, counting toward high school GPA. All unapproved courses will only appear on a college/university transcript and will not count toward high school GPA.
Since DE courses are part of the high school schedule, DE courses can affect athletic eligibility. Students should consult with the school athletic director or their coach directly to see how their DE courses pertain to their eligibility.
Since DE courses count toward college/university GPA and become a part of a student’s permanent college/university transcript, DE courses can affect eligibility for future financial aid.
Most DE courses will transfer to in-state colleges/universities. Please consult with college/university advisors directly on which credits will transfer to out-of-state colleges/universities.
*Changes to York Tech or USC Lancaster dual enrollment courses must be approved and completed through the respective college advisors. The CHS Counseling Department does not have access to York Tech's or USC Lancaster's registration systems.
