Mosaic or Jeshuaic Law

Two main Biblical characters

In the book of books we can find tow important characters who presented their followers with laws and regulations which they never claimed to be their own rules and regulations but the Law of God.

The first noted leader of the People of God was the illustrious prophet and legislator of the Hebrews, who led them from Egypt to the Promised Land. Moshe or Moses his name as ancient servant of God occurs repeatedly in Greek and Latin writings, and still more frequently in those of the Arabs and the rabbinical Jews.

In all that he wrought and taught, he was but the agent of the Most High; and yet in all his own character stands honourably revealed. Many features of his character and life furnish admirable illustrations of the work of Christ  —  as the deliver, ruler, and guide of his people, bearing them on his heart, interceding for them, rescuing, teaching, and nourishing them even to the promised land.

Moses was the author of the Pentateuch, as it is called, or the first five books of the Bible, the Pentateuch, which is often called "the law of Moses".

God constantly spoke to Moses and gave him instructions in all things.

Moses, his name is often used where the law is alluded to; and Moses is mentioned by the Apostle John when contrasting the dispensations of the law and the gospel:

"The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." (Joh 1:17.)

Mosaic Law Divine

The divine origin of the Law of Moses, and consequent divinity of the God of Israel, are proved by the results of even a partial obedience thereto by those to whom it has been given (Deut. i. 1, etc.).

The following are a few of the results:

The death rate in England, of 1,000 Gentiles, is: 250 die before 7 years old, the next 750 before 26 years, the last 250 before 59 years; whereas, of 1,000 Jews, the first 25 have not died till 28th years have passed away, the next 750 not until 53 years, and the last 250 not until 71.Of 100,000 Gentiles, 143 are stillborn; of the same number of Jews, only 89 are stillborn.

Authorities are agreed that Jewish lives are 50 percent, more valuable, for insurance purposes, than Gentile lives. At Naples, in 1884, although Jews formed so large a proportion of the population, only 6 were attacked during the terrible plague of cholera. In the same year, at Marseilles, out of 1671 deaths, only 7 were Jews, 2 of whom were nurses and the other 5 not orthodox Jews.

Mosaic Law a regulation order for God's People

On Mount Sinai Moses received instructions from Jehovah. Jehovah spoke to the people through an angel, providing what has come to be known as the "Ten Words" or the "Ten Commandments".

Jehovah wrote those commandments upon stone tablets so that all would come to understand that those laws had enormous significance.

“15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, with the two tables of the testimony in his hand; tables that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. 16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. 17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. 18 And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome; but the noise of them that sing do I hear. 19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.” (Ex 32:15-19 ASV)

“ And Jehovah said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon the tables the words that were on the first tables, which thou brakest.” (Ex 34:1 ASV)

“ And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as Jehovah had commanded him, and took in his hand two tables of stone.” (Ex 34:4 ASV)

“29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of the testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses knew not that the skin of his face shone by reason of his speaking with him. 30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.” (Ex 34:29-30 ASV)

The two tablets on which the "Ten Words" or "Commandments" were written were placed inside the ark of the covenant within the Most Holy compartment of the tabernacle and later the temple. The laws they bore set out the core principles of the Mosaic Law covenant and formed the basis for the theocratic administration of a national government. They gave evidence that Jehovah was dealing with a specific people, a chosen people.

Those laws which God gave to His people, revealed much about Jehovah and the way how He wanted people to behave. For man those given laws could be a form of safeguard. If people would strictly obey God His Voice and Wishes they could be part of God His special treasure, His special property out of all other peoples, so that those following His Wish could be as an example to others. The whole earth had to know that Jehovah owns the whole Earth to choose from, but He has chosen His Own People because they are special to Him: the People of Israel is for God a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.

“5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be mine own possession from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine: 6 and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.” (Ex 19:5-6 ASV)

Mosaic Law and Jesus Christ

While a mere observance of the Law in its administrative functions, which said,

"Thou shalt not",

could not give eternal life, the observance of the command,

"Thou shalt",

calling for obedience through faith, would bring eternal life.

Jesus Himself being witness:

"If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments" (Matt. xix. 17).

In the one case the precept was — thou shalt not do certain things, i.e., kill or steal. The other phrase was:

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and thy neighbour as thyself, thus do and thou shalt live" (Luke x. 25-28).

To carry out these precepts involved a voluntary offering of self. In fact, if Jesus, made under the law, observed those two precepts, to die for others became a necessary corollary. Without question, it was obedience to the law in its higher obligations through faith which brought eternal life.

The method adopted by the Father for removing the evil which ensued in consequence of Adam's transgression illustrates His righteousness and unchangeableness. Without abrogating the law of sin and death, the bestowal of the Mosaic law opened the way for the removal of its effects by causing its precepts to meet on Jesus, who fulfilled that law in its minutest details. In obedience to that law, He freely offered Himself as a sacrifice, and thus came under its curse, for it is written:

"Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree" (Gal.iii. 18).

Since the law cursed a righteous man, its abolition in Christ was a justifiable procedure.

"He hath taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross" (Col.ii. 14).

In this we have the most remarkable illustration of the way in which one law may be neutralized by another, after the example of the law of the Medes and Persians. Mordecai was not permitted to alter the edict given under the king's seal for the destruction of the Jews, but another edict permitting them to defend themselves brought to nought the evil designs of the enemy. Similarly, "a law which neither we nor our fathers could bear" is neutralized, and its ultimate effects removed in the case of those who are redeemed in Jesus anointed Moreover, deliverance from death through the righteousness of faith precludes any glorifying of the flesh. See Rom. iii. 20-22. Deliverance from death on this principle is acclaimed by the Apostle Paul thus:

"Ο the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and know-ledge of God .... For of Him, and through Him, and unto Him, are all things. To Him be the glory for the ages".

Mosaic Law and Eternal Life

How came it that life could not come by the Law, as Paul says in Gal. iii. 21:

"Is the Law, then, against the promises of God? God forbid; for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the Law".

Let me give the Spirit's answer (Rom. viii. 3): "What the Law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh", God has done in the way which we shall consider when we come to that point. Here, then, is the Spirit's teaching that the weakness of the Law, in relation to the bestowing of life eternal, lay in the incapability of the flesh to keep it; as Jesus said to his disciples:

"The Spirit, indeed, is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Matt. xxvi. 41) ....

In this connection we can understand what Paul means by saying Jesus was obedient unto death, even the death of the cross, which implies that he was commanded unto the death of the cross; for how can a man be obedient unto that which is not commanded?

If Christ had refused to do that which was commanded, would not that have been sin? And if Christ had sinned, could Christ have been saved? Where, then, is the talk of Christ having it in his own power to enter eternal life alone, without dying ? . . . .

God required Jesus to submit to the death of the cross, in order that he might come under the curse of the Law in that particular way, because any other curse (involving his own personal transgression) would have prevented his resurrection.

Mosaic Law and regulations for God's People

Jehudim having today a lot of regulations they follow to be righteous in the eyes of the El Elyon (God Most High) God above all gods.

But they and other people had to know that there would come a time when Jehovah God would make a brand-new covenant with Israel and Judah. It won’t be a repeat of the covenant Jehovah made with their ancestors when He took them out of the land of Egypt. For God it was clear that on several occasions those chosen ones had difficulties with keeping to His Laws. The People of Israel more than once broke that covenant even though Jehovah did His part as their Master.

Though whatever happened and still shall happen mankind had to know that it is God’s Decree that He will put His law within them — "write it on their hearts"!. Mankind shall come to see that Jehovah is not only their God, but the Divine Creator Who has chosen Himself a set apart people. They’ll know God firsthand, the dull and the bright, the smart and the slow.

God also declared that He’ll wipe the slate clean for each of them and shall forget they ever sinned!

“31 Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was a husband unto them, saith Jehovah. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith Jehovah: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people: 34 and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.” (Jer 31:31-34 ASV)

Laws of God not abolished

Lots of Christians are of the opinion that the Mosaic Law or the laws of God are abandoned.

They are wrong!

It is true that the divine laws had great value, but for many goyim or non-Jews seemed very difficult to keep. The all-knowing God knew that but also wanted those not belonging to His originally Chosen People, to become part of His People. Therefore, Jehovah foretold the making of a new covenant unlike the Law covenant made with the nation of Israel.

“31 "Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them, "declares the LORD. 33 "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 "And they shall not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ’Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the LORD, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."” (Jer 31:31-34 NAS)

God was to sent to the world an other prophet similar but more valuable than Moses, this time that prophet would not only guide God's People to liberation, but all people of the world. The prophet sent by God this time is much greater than Moses and succeeded in all things there were Moses failed. The later prophet always managed to do the Will of God. By his words and actions, this special personality always gave honour to his God, the God of Abraham.

Many, who call themselves Christian, do not really see who that prophet is whom they gave the name Jesus ("Issou", which really means "Hail Zeus") which does dishonour to his real name Jeshua (Yeshua, Yahushua, Yehoshua, , Jahushua, Joshua, which means "Jehovah saves"). Worse, they go in against his teachings and do not worship this prophet his God, but have made that man of flesh and blood into their god. Their worship of a Trinity is already going against the first Law of the Mosaic Law but also of the Jeshuaic Law, in both clearly said we only may worship the Only One True God Who is One.

Mosaic versus Jeshuaic Law

That special prophet of God, given to the world to show the way to God and to make clear what God wants from His creatures, is Jeshua, today better known as Jesus Christ. The prophet born in the city of David (Bethlehem) made himself a name as Jeshua ben Josef or Jesus of Nazareth, called by his followers ‘Christ’, χριστός, translating the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ, i.e. (God’s) Messiah or anointed one.

When people would better listen to the words of Jesus Christ, they would see that the Mosaic Law frequently appears in the teaching of Christ. In the Sermon on the Mount the master teacher refers most specifically and fully to it. It is frequently asserted that he there would expose "the imperfection of the Law" and would set his own authority against its authority. But this seems to be a superficial and an untenable view.

Christ indeed affirms very definitely the authority of the Law: and made it clear he never came to destroy the law or the prophets.

“ Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.” (Mt 5:17 ASV)

Here the term would seem to mean the whole of the Pentateuch, where every word counts and should be taken into account.

“ For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.” (Mt 5:18 ASV)

Though Jesus recognises it is not easy for man who should be aware that in case the Masaic Law would be abandoned or a single letter of God’s Law wearing out, such a thing would be easier than the sky disintegrating and the earth dissolving.

“ But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the law to fall.” (Lu 16:17 ASV)

The perfection and permanence of the Law as well as its authority are thus indicated. Jesus also warned that whosoever would break one of these least commandments or would trivialise even the smallest item in God’s Law, and would teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven. Those able to keep to the Laws of God, taking them seriously, and teaching them, showing the way for others, shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

“ Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Mt 5:19 ASV)

We should not take those sayings of Christ lightly. These impressive sentences should be borne in mind in considering the utterances that follow, in which there seems a contrast between the Law and his own teaching, and from which has been drawn the inference that he condemns and practically abrogates the Law.

Jesus, the Mediator of the new covenant, did not personally impart a written code of law to his followers. What he really does is to bring out the fulness of meaning that is in the Law, and to show its spirituality and the wideness of its reach. He declared that the righteousness of his disciples had to exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, whose righteousness consisted largely in a punctilious observance of the external requirements of the Law. Jesus taught his disciples that it is more important to live according to the spirit of the law than to its letter.

Jeshuaic Law or Law of Christ to follow

Unlike the natural Israelites, who were bound to the Mosaic Law by birth, Jeshua or Jesus from Nazareth, opened now the doors for goyim or gentiles, so that they too could become part of the People of God, by the New Covenant.

The law in its enactment of sacrifices and feasts was essentially typical and foreshadowed what was to be fulfilled in Christ. In accordance with this, Saul or Paul, as a Jew, could say,

"The law was our schoolmaster unto Christ."

Non-Jews can learn about the Jew Jesus Christ and about the ancient and present People of Israel. The Jews always shall remain the Chosen People of God, but today there is also place in God's Kingdom for non-jews or people of all nations who do not have to become Jews and as such do not have to comply to all the Jewish rules and regulations.

Those who want to follow Christ, when a Jew can stay a Jew or become a Jeshuaist, and when a non-Jew or a heathen, can convert to Christianity, becoming a Jeshuaist or Christadelphian, a member of Christ's city, a partaker of the Body of Christ. Though to become a Jeshuaist of follower of Christ a person has to be willing to really follow Christ in all aspects. Becoming a Christadelphian requires the full initiative to become a Brother in Christ, accepting Christ Jesus as the cornerstone of the community and as the best mediator between God and man.

The Christadelphian should be a Jeshuaist in heart and kidney, following Jeshua's words and as such also following the Jeshuaic Law or Law of Christ. Our desire to obey God and to imitate His personality should grow ever stronger as we come to know Jehovah better and appreciate the love He showed for us. Yes, love of God involves obedience.

“ For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” (1Jo 5:3 ASV)

The law of the Christ is all about the Law of God and involves a heartfelt love of God, including a new command — Christians are to have self-sacrificing love for one another. When asked which was the greatest commandment in the Law, the master teacher answered that people had to love Jehovah their God with their whole heart and with their whole soul and with their whole mind, meaning it had to be a true deep love, accepting Him too as the Only One God above all gods.

That intense love should also be reflected in our respect to God His creatures and as such in our love to those who surround us.

“35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, trying him: 36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second like unto it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments the whole law hangeth, and the prophets.” (Mt 22:35-40 ASV)

It has always been important and the first on any list for God, that He would be loved with all our passion and prayer and intelligence. People thinking the Mosaic Law would be finished should see that there is a second law to set alongside the above first law concerning the Love for God. Those following Christ should like him love others as well as they love themselves. These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them. We also call it the "Golden Rule".

Jesus set the perfect example in showing love and real followers of him should follow his example. Love of God and neighbour, in fact, are inextricably linked. The apostle John stated: that if anyone would say that he loves God and yet would be hating some other person then he would be a liar.

“My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God.” (1Jo 4:7 Message)

“If anyone boasts, "I love God," and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see?” (1Jo 4:20 Message)

In such love for others there is no place for hating, cheating, stealing, boasting, or to lie, to falsify, to curse, or to dishonour, all acts which are comprised in the Mosaic Law.

Every person calling himself a Christian should walk ‘worthy of the Lord’ unto all pleasing. Having received Christ Jesus, every follower of Christ is to walk in him and according to his law.

“ to walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;” (Col 1:10 ASV)

“ As therefore ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,” (Col 2:6 ASV)

And that walk in Christ has to be done with works of faith, because without keeping to the right way of life and not following up the orders given by God and by His beloved son, the faith shall be worthless or dead.

“ Work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him the Father, even God, hath sealed.” (Joh 6:27 ASV)

“ We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” (Joh 9:4 ASV)

“ but declared both to them of Damascus first and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judaea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.” (Ac 26:20 ASV)

“ For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.” (Jas 2:26 ASV)

“ for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Ro 10:10 ASV)

“ Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.” (Jas 2:17 ASV)

Jesus telling us that we should do the Will of God gives an indication that we should follow God's ordinances which are given to us. Following or living according God's Law is also to indicate whether we will be approved on the day of judgment. Everything we do has to be acceptable in the sight of God.

“ But if any widow hath children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family, and to requite their parents: for this is acceptable in the sight of God.” (1Ti 5:4 ASV)

“ and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works;” (Heb 10:24 ASV)

“ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Mt 7:21 ASV)

As we gain knowledge and appreciation for Jehovah and his Son, we are moved to be like them. Our love for Jehovah, along with the help of His Holy Spirit, will enable us to put our own self and our old way of life at the side, becoming in a way a total new personality. Every item of our new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with His label on it. When we live God’s way, all the old fashions shall beomce obsolete.

The choice for God should be a free will choice. Our faith should be a mirroring of our inner believe in One God and our love to please Him. It is about us developing a willingness to stick with the things of God, more than with the things of this world. Though not of this world we shall keep a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way.

“9 lie not one to another; seeing that ye have put off the old man with his doings, 10 and have put on the new man, that is being renewed unto knowledge after the image of him that created him:” (Col 3:9-10 ASV)

“22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 meekness, self-control; against such there is no law.” (Ga 5:22-23 ASV)
