¡Fiesta Nacional Letona a nuestra llegada!

Este primer día no es lectivo en Letonia, por lo que nos sustituyen las horas de clase por la visita a un hospital de Liepaja con el que el colegio colabora de forma regular. Allí asistimos a llevar unos juguetes que se han comprado con el dinero obtenido por el alumnado en diversas actividades benéficas. La enfermera nos explica los tratamientos que siguen estos niños y lo importante que es la ayuda que reciben de la escuela.

Latvian National Holiday upon our arrival!

This first day is not a school day in Latvia, so we replace class hours with a visit to a hospital in Liepaja with which the school collaborates on a regular basis. There we attended to bring some toys that have been purchased with the money obtained by the students in various charitable activities. The nurse explains to us the treatments these children follow and how important the help they receive from school is.

A nuestra llegada nos recibió la directora del centro. Nos explicó con una presentación de Power Point el funcionamiento del centro: el ideario del centro, los alumnos que tenían, las instalaciones y el trabajo de los profesores. 

Nos enseñó las dependencias del colegio y nos presentó a la coordinadora del equipo Erasmus del colegio. Nos imprimieron nuestro horario semanal y nos acompañaron a la clase de música de segundo en la que había 25 alumnos.

La seño presenta un video sobre la forma musical del Rondó (ABACA). Entonan la escala musical junto al piano. Hacen reconocimiento de notas musicales. Crean tres líneas rítmicas en la pizarra (ABC) y las interpretan con palmas, rotuladores y maracas. para afianzar la idea del ritmo del rondó dibujan objetos (manzana, plátano, manzana, cerezas y manzana(ABACA). Se reparten instrumentos y todos tocan y cantan una canción con la partitura escrita en la pizarra.

10:30 Matemáticas

Después de diez minutos de descanso vamos a clase de 3º. Como es una de las asignaturas instrumentales hay dos profesoras en clase para 26 alumnos. Se ponen de pie para saludarnos. La clase comienza con preguntas por escrito de la tabla de multiplicar que corrigen los compañeros después de cambiar las libretas. Puestos  de pie todos aplauden a los que no se han equivocado.

Repaso de cambio de unidades:m a cm y mm y hacen un ejercicio. Explicación de la escala sobre un plano de Letonia, en gran grupo hacen un ejercicio sobre escala. Miden sus mesas y las representan con la escala 1:10. Resuelven problemas com cambios de unidades de medida.

11:20 Arts.

Nos saludan de pie, se sientan y ponen las manos en la nuca para escuchar la explicación de la profesora. Ven en la pizarra con detalle las esculturas de La Piedad, el Pensador, el David, Napoleón…: mirada baja, tristeza, enfado, concentración, alegría, … Para volver a tener a los alumnos concentrados la profesora los pone de pie, levantan manos, las bajan, detrás de la cabeza y se sientan. Comparan fotografías de pinturas, imitan las poses de los cuadros y buscan proporciones: una mano la cara, dos hasta el codo, dos hasta la muñeca.. Se reparte plastilina y cada alumno hace un muñeco con las proporciones que han visto.

Hacen un descanso de cinco minutos, juegan a la rueda, se lavan las manos y bajan al comedor. Tras diez minutos vuelven a clase y con dos tiras de papel que cortan con las manos hacen las proporciones del cuerpo humano, con ellas ponen las posturas que la maestra sugiere.

Upon our arrival we were greeted by……., the director of the school. She explained to us with a Power Point presentation the operation of the center: the ideology of the center, the students they had, the facilities and the work of the teachers.

She showed us around the school and introduced us to the coordinator of the school's Erasmus team. They printed us our weekly schedule and accompanied us to the second grade music class in which there were 25 students.

The lady presents a video about the musical form of Rondó (ABACA). They sing the musical scale next to the piano. They recognize musical notes. They create three rhythmic lines on the board (ABC) and perform them with claps, markers and maracas. To reinforce the idea of the rhythm of the rondo, they draw objects (apple, banana, apple, cherries and apple (ABACA). Instruments are distributed and everyone plays and sings a song with the score written on the blackboard.

10:30 Mathematics

After ten minutes of rest we go to 3rd grade class. As it is one of the instrumental subjects, there are two teachers in class for 26 students. They stand up to greet us. The class begins with written multiplication table questions that are corrected by classmates after changing notebooks. Everyone stands up and applauds those who have not made a mistake.

Review of changing units: m to cm and mm and do an exercise. Explanation of the scale on a map of Latvia, in a large group they do an exercise on scale. They measure their tables and represent them with the 1:10 scale. They solve problems with changes in units of measurement.

11:20 Arts.

They greet us standing up, sit down and put their hands behind their heads to listen to the teacher's explanation. They see on the blackboard in detail the sculptures of La Piedad, the Thinker, David, Napoleon...: lowered gaze, sadness, anger, concentration, joy,... To have the students concentrated again the teacher makes them stand up, they raise their hands They lower them behind their heads and sit down. They compare photographs of paintings, imitate the poses of the paintings and look for proportions: one hand for the face, two up to the elbow, two up to the wrist... Plasticine is distributed and each student makes a doll with the proportions they have seen.

They take a five-minute break, play wheel, wash their hands and go down to the dining room. After ten minutes they return to class and with two strips of paper that they cut with their hands they make the proportions of the human body, with them they put the postures that the teacher suggests.

8:30 Informática 1º 

Los alumnos en una clase reducida de 13 alumnos aprenden a usar el Word, el uso de la tilde, mayúsculas, puntos, exclamaciones e interrogaciones. Usan una plantilla para saber la posición de los dedos y copian pequeñas oraciones en inglés. Trabajan el cambio de fuente, tamaño y color.

9:20 Lengua Letona 2º

En clase de 12 alumnos, con dos profesoras,  se hace una lectura colectiva de un cuento sobre una rana y un conejo. Cada uno lee hasta un punto mientras los demás siguen la lectura señalando con el dedo, ven el cuento en la pizarra, a coro dramatizan la lectura, se levantan  y representan la historia con gestos. 

Las clases en algunas asignaturas se reparten en pequeños grupos: letón, inglés e informática. mientras que en matemáticas hay dos profesoras, una hace de asistente.

10:20 Matemáticas 1º

Por parejas trabajan las simetrías. La profesora reparte figuras en papel, los alumnos doblan buscando el eje de simetría e identifican las figuras geométricas. En folios doblan y recortan figuras simétricas.  En una hoja cuadriculada dibujan. contando cuadros, figuras simétricas: primero dibujan el eje, hacen la mitad de una figura e intercambian con el compañero para hacer la figura entera. 

11:20 Inglés 2º 

En clase hay 13 alumnos y una alumna de prácticas. Repasan los colores en inglés. La profesora pone flashcards de colores en la pizarra con imanes, los alumnos tienen que adivinar la que falta cuando se va quitando de uno en uno. 

Trabajan el vocabulario de la ropa, lo repasan y combinan ese vocabulario con los colores. Utilizan tarjetas naranjas y verdes para decir verdadero o falso en un juego en la pizarra, juegan con la ropa que llevan y sus colores. Todos hacen una actividad en el workbook. Después siguen practicando el vocabulario jugando de pie.

12:20 Música 1º 

Hacen una actividades de ti-ti, ta, silencio, corchea, negra y silencio en el cuadernillo de música y las colocan en un tren.

Todos cantan una canción sobre un tren acompañados por la profesora que toca el piano. 

Por la tarde la directora nos enseña las clases extraescolares de robótica de los alumnos más mayores, en las que están haciendo diversos circuitos para que sus robots recorran.

8:30 Computer Science 1st

Students in a small class of 13 students learn to use Word, the use of accent marks, capital letters, periods, exclamations and questions. They use a template to know the position of their fingers and copy small sentences in English. They work on changing font, size and color.

9:20 Latvian Language 2nd

In a class of 12 students, with two teachers, there is a collective reading of a story about a frog and a rabbit. Each one reads up to a point while the others continue the reading pointing with their fingers, they see the story on the board, they dramatize the reading in chorus, they get up and represent the story with gestures.

Classes in some subjects are divided into small groups: Latvian, English and IT. while in mathematics there are two teachers, one acts as an assistant.

10:20 Mathematics 1st

In pairs they work on symmetries. The teacher distributes figures on paper, the students fold them looking for the axis of symmetry and identify the geometric figures. They fold and cut out symmetrical figures on sheets of paper. On a squared sheet they draw. counting squares, symmetrical figures: first they draw the axis, make half a figure and exchange with their partner to make the whole figure.

11:20 English 2nd

In class there are 13 students and one internship student. They review colors in English. The teacher puts colored flashcards on the board with magnets, the students have to guess the one that is missing when it is removed one by one.

They work on the vocabulary of clothing, review it and combine that vocabulary with colors. They use orange and green cards to say true or false in a game on the board, they play with the clothes they wear and their colors. Everyone does an activity in the workbook. Then they continue practicing the vocabulary by playing standing up.

12:20 Music 1st

They do a ti-ti, ta, silence, eighth note, quarter note and silence activities in the music booklet and place them on a train.

They all sing a song about a train accompanied by the teacher who plays the piano.

In the afternoon the director shows us the extracurricular robotics classes of the older students, in which they are making various circuits for their robots to travel.

8:30 Informática 3º 

Clase de 15 alumnos que se ponen en pie para saludarnos y darnos los buenos días. Aprenden a dibujar formas geométricas con el Power Point. Primero empiezan con una presentación sobre líneas curvas, rectas, relleno, grosor de línea,....En mitad de la clase se levantan y hacen estiramientos de brazos y manos.

 Copian una flor, decoran una taza como el modelo dado, dibujos de nubes, sol… 

9:20 Lengua 3º 

La clase comienza con un video de su himno, todos puestos en pie cantan . Comentan qué han visto. Van a hacer una ficha con una lectura comprensiva. La seño hace una lectura expresiva, comentando y explicando el vocabulario más difícil usando fotografías sobre cultura letona, después leen entre todos de punto en punto. Para seguir la lectura usan una regla que quitan cuando les toca leer. Para tener un buen ambiente de trabajo, se levantan y hacen gestos sobre la lectura, respiraciones, ejercicios en mitad de la clase para liberar energía y vuelven a sentarse y seguir leyendo. 

10:30 Artística 3º 

Tras veinte minutos de descanso, los alumnos ven un video sobre Letonia “Welcome to my country”  y en libros antiguos enseña a la clase los trajes tradicionales con los diferentes estampados y aprenden el nombre de cada una de las prendas que lo forman.  La profesora reparte unos recortables que colorean, recortan y forman cada uno su traje.

11:20 Diseño y tecnología 3º

Después de un pequeño descanso cada alumno saca su teléfono móvil y ponen en el buscador una dirección que les dice la profesora y buscan información sobre los trajes tradicionales y siguen coloreando y recortando.

12:20 Informática 3º

La profesora nos explica que entre octubre y febrero se celebra un festival de máscaras para contrarrestar los días de oscuridad y tristeza que viven en el país. Los alumnos van a hacer diseños de estas máscaras: oso, conejo, pollo,... usando Power Point. 

8:30 Computer Science 3rd

Class of 15 students who stand up to greet us and say good morning. They learn to draw geometric shapes with Power Point. First they start with a presentation about curved lines, straight lines, filling, line thickness,.... In the middle of the class they get up and stretch their arms and hands.

  They copy a flower, decorate a cup like the given model, drawings of clouds, sun...

9:20 Language 3rd

The class begins with a video of their anthem, everyone stands up and sings. They comment on what they have seen. They are going to make a sheet with a comprehensive reading. The teacher does an expressive reading, commenting and explaining the most difficult vocabulary using photographs about Latvian culture, then they read together from point to point. To follow the reading they use a rule that they remove when it is their turn to read. To have a good work environment, they get up and do gestures about reading, breathing, exercises in the middle of class to release energy and they sit down again and continue reading.

10:30 Artistic 3rd

After twenty minutes of rest, the students watch a video about Latvia “Welcome to my country” and in old books he teaches the class the traditional costumes with the different patterns and they learn the name of each of the garments that make it up. The teacher hands out some cut-outs that each color, cut out and form her costume.

11:20 Design and technology 3rd

After a short break, each student takes out their mobile phone and enters an address that the teacher tells them into the search engine and they look for information about traditional costumes and continue coloring and cutting out.

12:20 Computer Science 3rd

The teacher explains to us that between October and February a mask festival is celebrated to counteract the days of darkness and sadness that the country experiences. The students are going to make designs for these masks: bear, rabbit, chicken,... using Power Point.

8:30 Inglés 2º

Repasan el vocabulario de la ropa y cantan una canción sobre el mismo tema. Ven un video sobre preguntas y respuestas ¿de qué color es… ? ¿ de qué color son…? Se hacen preguntas y contestan por parejas. 

Juegan al “please” la profesora da órdenes y sólo tienen que hacer caso si dice please.

Hay un niño muy nervioso al que siempre usa de ayudante cuando tiene que repartir algo. Nadie se queja ni protesta. 

9:30 Letón ( para niños extranjeros) Nuestro ATAL

Tienen un juego en la pared con manos y puntos que hacen al comenzar la clase. Los tres alumnos van a la pizarra y repasan los meses del año, estaciones y forman la fecha. 

Hacen una lectura comprensiva, tienen palabras y fotos recortadas que organizan en la mesa en función de la lectura. Durante la lectura han ido subrayando y al contestar la ficha van buscando las respuestas entre lo que habían señalado. Para terminar cantan y bailan una canción sobre la lectura. 

10:20 Plástica 1º 

Hacen un paisaje nocturno con árboles de navidad usando la técnica del moteado con unas esponjas. Trabajan de forma muy autónoma y la seño va pasando por las mesas para ver los trabajos.

11:20 Educación Física 3º 

En la segunda planta hay una clase acondicionada como gimnasio.  La profesora ha organizado un circuito con seis pruebas: colar varios objetos en una canasta, hacer caminos con tubos de plástico partidos por la mitad para transportar unas bolas hasta un aro, hacer rodar pelotas que se paren en un determinado lugar, lanzar unas bolsas de tela a un agujero en una rampa y que cuelen dentro, lanzar pelotas y colarlas dentro de un cono invertido y buscar información en internet en una tablet para responder unas preguntas. 

12:30 

A última hora en el despacho de dirección nos reunimos con la directora y con la coordinadora Erasmus, compartimos impresiones y nos contestan  dudas. La directora nos pregunta nuestras impresiones y si pueden hacer un intercambio viniendo a nuestro centro a final de este curso. Nos despedimos. 

8:30 English 2nd

They review the vocabulary of clothing and sing a song about the same topic. They watch a video about questions and answers: what color is...?  what color are they…? Questions are asked and answered in pairs.

They play “please” the teacher gives orders and they only have to listen if she says please.

There is a very nervous boy who he always uses as a helper when he has to distribute something. Nobody complains or protests.

9:30 Latvian (for foreign children) Our ATAL

They have a game on the wall with hands and points that they do at the beginning of class. The three students go to the blackboard and review the months of the year, seasons and form the date.

They do a comprehensive reading, they have words and photos cut out that they organize on the table depending on the reading. During reading they have been underlining and when answering the worksheet they are looking for the answers among what they had indicated. To finish, they sing and dance a song about reading.

10:20 Plastic 1st

They make a night landscape with Christmas trees using the speckling technique with sponges. They work very autonomously and the lady goes by the tables to see the work.

11:20 Physical Education 3rd

On the second floor there is a classroom converted into a gym. The teacher has organized a circuit with six tests: putting several objects in a basket, making paths with plastic tubes cut in half to transport some balls to a hoop, rolling balls that stop in a certain place, throwing some bags of cloth to a hole in a ramp and let them sneak inside, throw balls and sneak them into an inverted cone and search for information on the internet on a tablet to answer some questions.

At the last minute in the management office we met with the director and the Erasmus coordinator, we shared impressions and they answered our questions. The director asks us our impressions and if they can do an exchange by coming to our center at the end of this course. We say goodbye.
