How much can you bring?

If you are authorized to enter for conversations, you can carry some packages to the person you intend to meet. However, some rules must be followed.

You are not allowed to bring more than 4 packets a month (even if you can have 6 conversations)
You are not allowed to bring more than 20 kg a month (you can choose: either 20 kg in one packet or divided into 2, 3 or 4 packets)

Will you give the package directly to the prisoner? No, you won’t. You leave the packet in the ‘Conversation Office’; the police check whether the packet doesn’t exceed in weight and also that everything is safe and abiding by the law. Then, the police give the packet to the prisoner through internal workers.

What can you bring?

ITEMS

They have to be vacuum-sealed, from supermarkets, not packed ‘at the counter’ and in a transparent package.

CLOTHES

Not everything is accepted, for prevention and security reasons.

sweaters and jackets/anoraks with hood

belts with iron buckle or studs.

PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS

Towels, bathrobe...

It is not possible to introduce personal hygiene products. These can be purchased from the internal 'sopravvitto' (extra-board) service. Inmates that cannot afford to buy these items will be taken care by the volunteers.

OTHER THINGS

You can bring books and magazines (which do not have to respect the weight limit of 20 kg a month!); glasses, watches (made of plastic, analogic, single function), blankets, bed sheets.

however...

For some specific goods, the inmates have to give a written request to the office called Casellario, and in this office it is decided whether to issue the authorization for that object to enter. The denial usually comes when it is found that the prisoner possesses these things.

Do you need a form?

Yes, you do.

Either you can fill it at the Ufficio Colloqui (Conversation Office), or you can download it from here, fill it at home and bring it back already filled. Choosing the second option, you can reduce the time you have to spend to hand it over.
