Inmates can use money to buy things inside prison. They can buy phone cards to call their loved ones, food and some goods at the service called sopravvitto (i.e. extra-board).
How does it work? Money is given to the jail. There an internal current account is opened, and the expenses made by the prisoner will be paid off from the account.
Prisoners do not have the possibility to deposit on their internal account, except for prisoners who work. For them the salary is automatically credited on the internal account.
You can deposit up to 500€ a day; however, there are upper budget limits.
Therefore, the prisoner cannot have more than this amount on his internal account. If he exceeds, the Facility will open a post office savings passbook.
You have three ways.
KIOSK
If you are authorized to enter for conversations, you are allowed to access the kiosk.
You have to bring your European Health Insurance Card, on which your tax code is written.
The police assistant enables you to deposit money, matching you with the prisoner.
You can deposit money. Only cash is allowed (no POS).
It is clear that if you are a person allowed to enter for conversations, you are either a relative or a person authorized to enter as ‘third person’. If you are not allowed to enter, you don’t have access to the kiosk, too.
BANK TRANSFER
You can deposit money through a bank transfer

MONEY ORDER
Addressed to the prison.
The money order is the least employed instrument: you are discouraged to use it because of its slowness.
