Chest of Marbles

2021 "And in a .blend of a chest, so far beyond reality"

Summary

This is a 3D model made off of a real-life mini chest full of marbles, using photos as reference and as texturing for the chest. The marbles were manually approximated, and warm/cool lighting was added to give the chest a sense of wonder.

Overview

This model is a recreation of a real-life small wooden chest of marbles. The various shapes were formed by using multiple angles of photos of the chest for reference, and these photos also formed the basis for the texture of the top of the chest as well as contributing to the normals of the metal elements. The other materials, like the marbles and the wood, were created in Blender using procedural noise. The inside of the chest was lit warmly while the back of the chest was lit with a cooler light, to give the contents a warm sense of wonder by guiding the eye with temperature cues.
