TRADITIONAL CALLING: Hi ___? Hey ___! This is ___. I work with your friend ___. How are you? Did ___ mention I was going to be calling? :)
YES - Okay, great! So you know…. NO - Oh ok, no problem! I must have gotten to you first…
The reason why I am calling is because ___ just started working with us. He/She is doing really well and knew we were looking to fill a few more spots on our team. ___ recommended you as someone who would be a good fit for one of the positions we have available, and I wanted to reach out personally to tell you a little bit about it…By the way, how do you know ___? (Did you go to ___ as well?) BUILD RAPPORT
Well, let me give you some details of our position...
SOCIAL MEDIA: Hi ___? This is ___ you were speaking with ___ over (social platform) regarding the (summer/fall/winter/spring) positions we have available. How are you? (I'm doing well, thanks!) I just wanted to reach out and give you some more details, get to know you a little, and if everything looks good from there, I'll get you set up to meet with a manager. Sound good? Okay, great! (Rapport)
716studentwork.com: Hi ___? Hey! This is ___, I work with ______. How are you? I'm doing well, thanks for asking! I saw you filled out an interview request on instagram for some winter break positions we have available... I just wanted to reach out and give you some more details, get to know you a little, and if everything looks good from there, I'll get you set up to meet with a manager. Sound good? Okay, great! (Rapport)
INTERESTED PR via TEXT: (Before you call, enter their phone # in applicant search, get to interview times) Hey is this (first name)? Hey! It's (your name), (manager’s name)’s assistant. How are you? I know it was a little weird to get a text about a job but we figured that was the easiest way to get ahold of you. :) We asked (referring rep) if they knew anyone who might want to work and is a little more responsible and he/she thought would be a good fit. Has (referring rep) told you anything about it yet?
By the way, before I go into the details… I do have to ask, Are you at least 18?
If No: No worries, are you at least 17 & graduating?
If Yes: Perfect!
It is an entry level customer sales & service position with Cutco…. Have you heard of CUTCO before?
• YES: Cool, does your family own it?
• NO: It’s mostly stuff for the kitchen, knives, cookware, and we also have hunting, fishing, and gardening stuff as well. With people being forced to cook at home more, we are experiencing a higher demand for our products.
Right now we are adding students to our winter break externship program. They get to work over their break (whether that’s 2 weeks or 2 months) and most make $400-$2,000 in income depending on how much they want to work.
If they find out it’s not a great fit for them, they have something awesome for their resume to help them get a summer internship elsewhere.
If things go well, and I would say for most people it does, we guarantee them a full-time summer internship position.
What (Sponsor/our staff) does is work with customers online over the computer, through professional pre-set appts and help them place orders for our products and answer their questions, basically help them in any way possible. (It's a really great fit for people who WANT TO HAVE the ability to work from home, they can do that REMOTELY with no problem.)
Basically, we are looking for someone comfortable with people. Do you consider yourself a people person? Okay, awesome, what have you done working with people in the past?
BUILD RAPPORT (work/major/etc)
Our starting base pay is $18, and that’s a guaranteed minimum whether customers buy our products or not. There is no telemarketing. Every customer we work with has already agreed to see the products so it’s a lot more laid back and relaxed. We also offer super flexible schedules. So it’s not a problem if someone has another job. (Are you working anywhere currently?)
If Student: Additionally, students like you have the possibility of earning college credit and scholarships based on performance with the company.
Okay, ____, I know you probably have a lot of questions. Since you heard about the job through (their school/their friend) I'd love to get you set up for an interview with a manager. They'll just review the job in full, obviously answer any questions you have, and from there... If we like you and you like us, we'll make it work! And if not, then... we won't! (laugh)
So while I’m looking at our availability, go ahead and walk me through your schedule for today and tomorrow? Pause and listen to availability.
Let me see what I can do for you….. [POWER PAUSE – offer CLOSEST interview time!] Hmm... Are you in Central or Easern time?
...It looks like a manager can meet with you on (DAY) right before/after ___ (caller’s obligations) at (TIME)… Does that work for you?
IF YES: Okay, perfect!
IF NO: Okay, what about (TIME) on (DAY)?
*SAME-DAY* FIRM UP: I know it’s soon, but I want to give you the first opportunity to secure a position!

What is the best email address for you?
(SPELL OUT LETTER-BY-LETTER, REPEAT BACK TO THEM TO DOUBLE CHECK)
Okay, (Name), just some information about your interview... The interview is going to be held over our corporate video conferencing software, it's a lot like zoom. We just use it to protect the security of our interview applicants. Your interview will be conducted by our manager (manager name). He/She is awesome! You’ll really enjoy meeting with him/her.
You’ll receive an email shortly after we get off the phone with all the information for your interview. That email will also have a private link to join the video conference. So, you should be able to open that email, click that link and it'll do the rest of the work for you! Last thing, you’ll need to join the interview using a laptop or a computer with a webcam, the link will not work from a cell phone/tablet. Does that make sense?
OK (Name), I have you set for DAY at TIME with Mr./Ms. (Manager) who is going to be taking time out of his/her schedule, so just to confirm, ___ at ___ is a good time? Great! (PROCEED TO BUILD MANAGER UP).
Again, my name is ___. Have a great day! [Positive Sendoff]
Hey (Name)! Great talking with you! Just to confirm, I have you in our calendar for (day) at (time). Please be on time and have a pen/paper handy for notes.
The link to access the interview will be in your email. Reminder: Laptops, not cell phone/tablet. Let me know if you have any questions. We look forward to walking you through all the details! -MANAGER NAME
Question Cycle:
1. “That’s a great question”...
2. (Answer the Question)
3. Follow up the answer with a question of your own to regain control on the conversation
Cool! Where do you work? That's probably why [Rep’s Name] recommended you, it's REALLY flexible so you can work around your current schedule and we also have some great student programs available as well.
Yeah/No, it’s a $18 base pay. That’s a flat rate. So it’s not based on sales and it’s guaranteed. We do have a commission pay as well so our reps have the opportunity to make more, so a lot of representatives take advantage of that. The manager can walk you through all of that during the interview though.
Definitely. We are just filling our positions on a first-applied, first-considered basis. And since you were recommended by (Rep Name), my manager wanted to invite you to interview. That way they can give you all the details, answer any questions you might have, and then from there you can decide if it would be a good fit on both ends. My manager has some time today/tomorrow I can still squeeze you into. When would you have some time to hear the details of the job?
Usually about an hour. The informational part is about 30 minutes, but there will be a few other people on that interview as well so you may have to wait to talk to a manager individually.
Of course, I would expect you to talk to [Rep’s Name] before you interview, [Rep’s Name] is probably expecting you to call. The only reason I was giving you a call was because we are filling the positions very quickly, and since [Rep’s Name] recommended you, we wanted to save you a spot on one of our interviews.
Ha! (laugh it off). Not at all. Vector was ranked as the #12 employer in the US by USA Today this past year. We have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and are members of the Direct Selling Association. Vector is a corporate sponsor of DECA and has been for years. CUTCO was featured in the 498 course for Agriculture Marketing for 30 years at Purdue, their students sold CUTCO as a part of their curriculum. Sorry you got some bad info.
The schedules are really flexible. A lot of the people that work here are either students or have other commitments. That's why a lot of students love it here during their winter/summer break since they can make their own schedule around their prior commitments.
Our reps set up their appointments just like a financial advisor would. They are only contacting people who already know they will be calling and find a time that works for both them and the customer. We have over 16 million customers and they have all been referred by a friend.
Our office is located in Williamsville in the English park Village. But right now we are operating completely online so our representatives do all their work from home or school.
Hey (Name), all the questions you are asking are great, but it would be a lot easier for a manager to answer them. I’m just the receptionist. I’m calling to find a time where you can hop on an interview. Basically, you’d meet with a manager and they’ll go over all the details of the position as well as answer any questions you have. At that point, you can both decide if this would be a good fit.
