I first want to say how is it possible for this popular of a movie not to be on a bigger streaming service. It is on Peacock for free but that is one my family isn't interested in buying. If not you have to watch it live on air/ record it or rent it off Amazon. If you want to watch it on air or recorded be careful because they do censor most of the graphic parts. Due to AMC censoring it I was not able to enjoy one of these classic movies. I found that there were lots of plot holes and that the plot was hard to follow because of those plot holes. If I did get the chance to watch it without censorship then I would try harder to actually enjoy it.
Some of the first scenes of the movie gave off my big fat greek wedding vibes even though they are Italian. As well the "godfather" was barely able to enjoy his daughter's wedding because so many people kept coming to him asking for favors. Like really! who would interrupt a father's big day by asking to murder people!!! Another fun fact is that Adrian from Rocky plays the "godfather's" daughter in the movie. I did like the use of the line "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse" it is very ominous and makes you think about what could he do to someone.
I don't want to talk about the plot too much because I didn't even understand the plot in the first place. I had to keep asking my dad what was going on. By the end of the movie, I was just bored wishing it would end. The director and screenwriter also missed a great opportunity to end the movie with the iconic line "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse" which would have been great, especially with how there are so many good shot compositions in there.
The actors are great. They are able to hold it together when they have to do scenes like having a dead fish on their lap or a horse head in the bed. But one thing I did dislike was how heavy of an Italian accent they had. I do understand that they are Italian mobsters and need the accent but it is so heavy sometimes I couldn't understand what they were saying which could contribute to more of me not understanding the plot because I couldn't figure out what they were saying.
I would also like to point out that at the end when the sister throws a tantrum, it is so overdramatic. It was almost like Janice from Friends that's how annoying it was. One of the biggest plot holes did Micheal's wife ever know about the woman he married in Italy. There is no more reference to her after he comes back from Italy.
Also, the movie is more of a prequel to Godfather 2. It's like Star Wars where they released Anikin's story after Luke's. There is really no purpose to it then to give a reason to make 3 more movies and give them all a shit ton of cash for it.
Overall I did not enjoy this movie. There were some good parts in there but they were very limited. I would like to think that the uncensored version might be better but I don't have high hopes for that. I can only give credit to the director because of how well it was filmed. The shots are amazing and he uses lots of different techniques to make a cinematic masterpiece but the same can't be said for the plot. Most people watch movies for the plot, not the cinematography.
