Seth and Evan are best friends, inseparable, navigating the last weeks of high school. Usually shunned by the popular kids, Seth and Evan luck into an invitation to a party, and spend a long day, with the help of their nerdy friend Fogell, trying to score enough alcohol to lubricate the party and inebriate two girls, Jules and Becca, so they can kick-start their sex lives and go off to college with a summer full of experience and new skills. Their quest is complicated by Fogell's falling in with two inept cops who both slow and assist the plan. If they do get the liquor to the party, what then? Is sex the only rite of passage at hand?
I first thought was this is going to be a good light-hearted comedy movie to watch with my parents. My dad had suggested it because we couldn't come up with any other movie options. Superbad was almost the exact opposite. I was comedic but not at all light-hearted. This movie features many different sex, drug, and alcohol scenes. About a fourth of the way through the movie my mom says "This isn't a movie you would want to watch with your parents right?" Personally no I didn't want to be watching this with my parents but I would have never been exposed to the movie otherwise. Besides being traumatized by watching this with my parents the movie did give me a good laugh. It also conveys good messages about friendships and sex. I loved following along with the Fogall storyline because of how much he was learning and how funny the cops were. I also finally learned where the Hawaii ID with McLovin comes from. Overall the movie is not the worst one and would watch it again without my parents.
My favorite scene from the movie had to be when Even gets a period blood stain on his pants and everyone wants to take photos of it. I loved how oblivious Even was and how so many people mistook it for blood when in reality it was the lining of the uterus wall.
I do think that Superbad is a good movie to watch before college for people that weren't in the "popular" crowd. I could relate to the characters in ways I normally wouldn't with other teen movies. It also shows that even outcasts can get girlfriends as well as stay friends with people in high school even if you're not going to college together.
