The aim of this project was to demonstrate a clear understanding of bridge inspection procedures, along with the associated health and safety considerations. The task required the selection of two bridges constructed from different materials—such as steel and composite—to allow for a comparative study.
A detailed risk assessment was conducted to identify potential hazards related to site visits, and to outline suitable safety measures for mitigating those risks. On-site general inspections of both bridges were carried out, during which various structural components were examined and documented using a standardized inspection form. This documentation served as the basis for developing monitoring, testing, and maintenance strategies aimed at preventing further deterioration.
Additionally, one of the selected bridges underwent an in-depth analysis. This included a review of its historical background, the challenges faced during its lifespan, and a comprehensive inspection report detailing the findings and recommendations for its continued maintenance and structural health.
