Need of rebuilding the bridge and its name
Delayed in construction of new bridge because of First world war year 1926.
The bridge should carry more traffic.
Ministry of Transport also wanted to provide employment opportunities for the young men of Battersea through bridge construction.
The new bridge was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Canada - William Lyon Mackenzie King on 6 May 1937 as he was present in London to attend the coronation of king Geoge VI.
The materials used to build the bridge out of Douglas fir tree from Canada for decking, road construction -Asphalt from Trinidad and Tobago, Steel from Yorkshire and Scotland, and Granite from Aberdeen and Cornwall reminds of the materials drawn are from all commonwealth countries.
The remark is engraved on the piece of granites still there on the bridge.
