Summary

It is an important part of the bridge construction life cycle to keep inspecting it from time to time for its operation and maintenance to minimize the life risks of users.

Time to time inspection is one way to keep bridge sound which needs a good list of risk factors on different parts of the bridge to be looked at ranging from deck elements, load-bearing structures, durability elements, safety elements, other bridge elements, and ancillary elements which is subdivided into single elements, or the part of the bridge need a detailed check.

The inspectors need to visit the location and check the bridge with the inspection form and need to get the risk assessment form approved by the senior authority to go for inspection following all safety measures.

Finding defects and prioritizing them as per the need of hour to be immediately checked by the engineer for his analysis and then remedial works are suggested along with the cost and work plan order.

Through this assignment I learned to choose the bridges which can be inspected and got interested to learn and see more bridges around the Chelsea Bridge, filling up the risk assessment form before visiting the site helped me to know the background of the bridge, its construction type, age, and nearby locations to reach there considering all risk factors while inspection and making are less risk-free by taking some measures to minimize risk factors.

While inspecting bridges I came to know about the various elements and parts of bridges in detail so developed my knowledge of bridge types and their parts. It helped me to examine the defects and their severity.

It was an indeed experience to know about one of the management parts of an Infrastructure project.
