On November 10, 2023 the Batang Empowered and Resilient team (BERT) of Bulihan National High School was invited to showcase the school's best practice as child-led DRRM - CCA advocate at Makati Multi-Sectoral Consultation. Together with the Team advisers Sir Sheg of Senior High School (SHS) Ma'am Joanne of Junior High School (JHS) of Bulihan National High School, along with other teachers and Ma'am Mary Grace June D. San Pedro, the BERT ventured into Barangay Bel-air Makati for a community planning and disaster risk reduction consultation.
The BERT discusses the three modules of Save the Children, the Learn, Survive and Be Protected. The first module that they discuss is about the hazard and disaster and the different types of hazard. The second module is about what to do and not do before, during, and after the disaster. The last module contained the rights of every child before, during, and after the disaster.
Before the first module that they discuss, the two emcees, Owen together with Mark, prepared a game activity entitled "Guess the Gibberish" with the participants who voluntarily play.
The first module was discussed by the two facilitators, Vernalyn and Mark. They share their knowledge about the disaster and hazard, and the different types of hazard. While discussing the dangerous animals, the facilitator asked the participants, "What other animals are dangerous aside from snakes?", some of the participants answered "dogs" and also shared their story about what happened to them.
After that the second module was discussed by Xyrene and Candice. They talked about the do's and don'ts before, during, and after disasters. Afterwards, they had a short activity in preparing an emergency backpack.
The last module was discussed by Cedrick, Tracy and Qwncy. Before the discussion proper, the emcees had hosted "Jumbled Scrambled" activity to maintain participation of the participants.
The multi-sectoral consultation ended with a post conference with BERT and Makati CDRRMO. The Makati CDRRMO congratulated the Team for a wonderful presentation and promised to emulate the good practice of BNHS to have children advocates in the DRRM and Climate Change Adaptation.
