The Batang Empowered and Resilient Team (BERT) is an initiative by Save the Children Philippines aimed at promoting disaster preparedness and resilience among children. This program emerged from the Local Empowerment through Access and Participation (LEAP) project, initially launched in Northern Iloilo in 2017. It has since expanded to various regions, including Western Visayas and the province of Antique . On March 2019, Bulihan National High School was among the 20 Pilot Schools in Region 3 selected to be part of the Save the Children Philippines' School Safe from Disaster Program.
Save the Children Philippines is dedicated to ensuring every child attains the right to survival, protection, development, and participation. Among its numerous impactful initiatives, the "Education Safe from Disasters" project stands out as a beacon of hope and resilience for communities across the nation.
Within the school community, Sir Sheg held the position of School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Coordinator for six years, demonstrating his commitment to the safety and preparedness of the school community until the role was transitioned to the administrative staff. Additionally, he serves as an adviser for the Batang Empowered and Resilient Team, helping students develop resilience and empowerment skills.
