In this module, we learnt about the social context within which teaching and education takes place. From our peers’ presentation, we were introduced to the major policy directions driving education reform (Every School, a Good School) and attempts to ameliorate educational inequalities (Every Student, an Engaged Learner). My group focused on the social context of character and citizenship education, the history of its reform, the role of the teacher and some strategies that teachers can use to facilitate CCE (Every Teacher, a CCE Teacher). We also learnt about the different stakeholders in education and how to forge meaningful partnerships with them (Every Stakeholder, a Supportive Partner). For our individual assignment, I wrote an essay about how education and teachers can propel the paradigm shift towards inclusivity, integration and equality through our interactions with students, parents and other stakeholders, as well as the challenges I may face and the personal strategies I would take to overcome them.
