This module was one of my favourite modules no less due to our fantastic tutor Dr. Tan Chee Soon, and the premise of the module which was to build on the theories we learnt in our previous modules such as EdPsych and Teaching and Managing Learners and apply them to how we may foster teacher-student relationship (TSR) in the classroom. We learnt strategies such as active, constructive responding, restorative practice, how to look out for distressed/ at-risk students and solidified our role as a caring teacher. I very much enjoyed the class discussions we had in this module on socially controversial topics such as smoking, suicide, special educational needs and even abuse. These were necessary in helping us understand the myriad of problems students might face, be cognisant of their needs and how we can support them.
As part of our assignment, my group designed an easy-access website that provides teachers with guidance on how to engage in restorative practice. It is meant to be a quick guide (available on web and mobile) for teachers to practically use in their classrooms when met with conflicts.
