Ignacio Bárbara

Ignacio Bárbara is senior lecturer of Botany at the Faculty of Science of the University of A Coruña, teaching in the Biology Degree and in two Masters: Aquaculture and Marine Biology. He has supervised 7 doctoral theses and participated in more than 30 projects, publishing 170 publications (papers and books), as presenting 140 communications in symposia. He is specialist in marine benthic algae, working in (i) new species and Iberian endemism, (ii) new records of native, exotic and cryptic species, (iii) taxonomic studies by using morphological and molecular data, (iv) descriptive researches of the marine natural environment and their habitats, (v) studies on assessment of the conservation status of marine habitats and communities, as well long-term changes. Ignacio has worked in several marine habitats such as: the rocky intertidal with brown and red seaweeds, the marshes with green and blue-green algae, the subtidal maërl bottoms with coralline algae, the subtidal and rock substrata with Laminaria and Cystoseira, the rocky-sandy bottoms with filiform red algae and the seagrass beds of Zostera.
