As an avid biker, I first became interested in bike-ped infrastructure biking around Blythewood, SC with my family and friends. My research, which focuses on increasing connectivity in Hartsville, SC, takes a look at incomplete intersections in Hartsville that pose a threat to bicyclist and pedestrian safety. My research's conclusions will effectively increase the town's connectivity as well as help promote a more bike-friendly culture. I presented a completed policy brief with solutions to these problems to the town council at the end of the semester.
I'm from Clover, SC and I attended GSSM. What first made me interested in the Bike to the Future project was being able to make a change in my community. Over the course of my research, I've focused on Complete Streets (a multimodal-oriented urban policy initiative), with an emphasis on sidewalk access and availability. I presented a policy brief on Complete Streets to my local legislators at the end of the spring semester.
I am from Florence, SC. I initially became interested in this project because I grew up in a town that placed very little focus on its infrastructure, despite the fact that many relied on bikes or foot-travel as a reliable means of transportation. I am focused on equitable infrastructure and how that is impacted by urban development, like housing. I hope to build community spaces and make sure everyone has access to safe travel.Â
I'm from Simpsonville SC, and I'm in SCGSSM's ACCELERATE program. I'm interested in different applications of design in engineering, and I saw BTTF as an opportunity for me to explore this area within urban design and development. I am interested in improving community engagement efforts in my hometown to support the local government's smart city growth initiative.
I am from Hartsville, SC, though I lived in Darlington, SC until recently. After observing how these two communities gathered for festivals and used local infrastructure, I became interested in how public spaces are sustained and shared. As an aspiring artist, I hope to use art to bring life and community to the commons.
