The following chart shows if the infamous mudras of Bharatnatyam are known by the public or not. More than one-fourth (35.7%) were not aware of any of the mudras which raise concerns about how these mudras that have remained interlinked with Indian culture and traditions for more than a millennium have yet not found a place among the common public's sphere of knowledge. However, it is reassuring to see that more than half were aware of some or the other mudras.
One interesting observation is that Mushti mudra is the most popular among the mentioned ones. One reason for this may be the fact that this mudra which resembles a fist is also used in day-to-day life for referring to a fist formation as muthi.
Arranging them from the most popular to the least can help as get a better grasp of the data -
Mushthi - Araala- Artha patka - Kartari mukha- Shukhathunda and mayurakhyo

The most popular reason as per the respondents is that 'Their work may not be viewed the same as their peers '. This is true to some extent as we observe that people may have set double standards or may have already made a judgment about a disabled person's work/talent before actually viewing it. Other reasons believed by 21.1% and 26.3% are that they are not given adequate opportunities and societal constraints respectively. Social constraints may be communication difficulty, more patience required, etc. A little less than one-sixth of the respondents believed the reasons to be other than the ones mentioned in the question

This question can provide enormous help if one decides to do something towards encouraging and normalizing people with disabilities learning dance. The most popular option is holding competitions in this category. This aims at providing more opportunities and is indeed a needed step if we look at the drastic difference in the opportunities available to people with disabilities as compared to their peers. Promoting in schools, academies, and universities holds the second position, and implementing all of these steps has taken the third position in terms of popularity.
