When we conducted a Bharatnatyam workshop for the children in Prabhat - an awakening NGO, we also received nice feedback about how BHaratnatyam made them feel better. You can see the smile on their face in the second image. You can see how in just one learning session, the learners their could learn the mudra, as seen in the first image.

BENEFITS OF BHARATNATYAM
ENHANCES PHYSICAL ENDURANCE
Bharatnatyam is no less than yoga so a few hours of practice and movement of body parts help in boosting stamina. These body movements are rather tough as compared to normal dance forms, and the postures need to be held for some seconds.
CONCENTRATED VISION
Different expressions are used in displaying different feelings like sadness, anger, and happiness with the help of varied eye movements in mudras, so it strengthens our eye muscles.

Notice the dance performance above and how beautifully the whole performance is portrayed. These dance steps also help a person in improving one's coordination, range of motion, flexibility, and confidence.
Each mudra or movement requires strong physical fitness so that one displays them in continuation while maintaining posture and form.

ENRICHES OUR BALANCE/ BODY ALIGNMENT
This dance form include different postures, poses and movements which are called karanas. It improves our body balance such as standing on one foot that needs to be held for a few seconds etc.
SPRIGHTFUL HEART & CARDIAC MUSCLES
Since this dance form requires a lot of energy so it increases the blood circulation in our body resulting in the rigorous working of cardiac muscles. Dance and fitness go side by side.

While Talking to our school's Bharatnatyam dancers, we were able to take a look into how it is a dance form that requires as much energy as any sport.
STRENGTHENS FACIAL MUSCLES
Bharatnatyam demands a lot of facial expressions. It involves the movement of the eyes, eyebrows, neck, and lips which make the muscles strong. The facial tissues become strong due to the constant movement of facial muscles.
REINFORCE ELASTICITY
Mudras are created by various body parts which reinforce flexibility in our body. It aids in communicating our feelings with the audience through expressions and gestures.
STRENGTHENS CONCENTRATION
One needs to recall the mudras, karanas and hastas to perform Bharatnatyam, hence requires a lot of concentration and absorption. It improves mental concentration, skills and alertness in our mind.
