Clean hands, clean reed, clean mouthpiece, clean socks?
Right, then let's go!
When we play a slur, we only tongue the first note. Our breath continues and we move our fingers to get to the next pitch. This makes a smooth sound. Our musical Italian word is legato.
Let's play up note by note, as if we are walking up the stairs - step, step, step... We are only moving one step at a time!
This piece is in 3 time! Do you remember when we were all waltzing round the room?
Now we are going to jump over some of the notes!
Our fingers will have to get used to this...!
Have you ever played leap frog? This is like finger leap frog!
Have you enjoyed playing E?
Don't worry if you do not find it easy! It usually takes fingers a little while to get used to new notes. It takes our eyes and brain a while to learn to read them too!
If you do this lesson, or parts of it a few times a week, you will be playing excellent Es in no time!! Well done for your hard work!
Now, how about some composing? You can do this in your booklet.
I wonder if you will choose to play in 4 or 3 time...
I wonder which note you will start on...
