A scale is a set of notes arranged in order. They can be ascending (going up one step at a time) or descending (going down one step at a time). They are given the name of the musical key that they are played in.
Let's learn to play a C major scale. On the keyboard, C major is the key which uses only the white notes.
This is how we write the C major scale :
Listen to the backing track and play along!
Seaside Rock is a rock song that has a keyboard part in two parts. On the music below the two parts are on separate lines.
Start by learning the music without the backing track, slowly at first, then speeding up. Use the finger numbers marked in the music.
First, play the bottom line, which just uses the notes E, F & G and the walking and striding rhythms.
Once you can play that, learn the top line which uses all the notes of the C major scale and all the rhythms we played in the warm ups.
