The only way for BNSF to get into the Bay Area, the Stockton Subdivision is home to every Richmond, North Bay, or Oakland bound BNSF train, as well as all outbound trains. After dancing around the Union Pacific tracks all the way from Martinez to Richmond, it reaches Pittsburg and flattens out. A straight shot from Bixler, near Discovery Bay, to Stockton is a great place to see speedy freight trains in action. Between Martinez and Richmond, the ex-ATSF tracks wind through the hills of Porta Costa, Crockett, and Hercules. Beginning at CP TR041, the San Joaquins join the Stockton Sub all the way to its end in Fresno. The map only goes as far east as Stockton. Click the interactive map to the left to learn more!
