San Joaquin trains operate via Union Pacific and BNSF trackage. For more information, visit our SJ General Information page and our UP and BNSF Maps pages
Operating along the UP Niles, Fresno, and Martinez Subdivisions, as well as the BNSF Stockton and Bakersfield Subdivisions, the San Joaquin route is most busy between Stockton and Bakersfield. With 14 intermediate stops between Oakland and Bakersfield and 11 between Sacramento and Bakersfield, this state-funded, Amtrak-operated system is a backbone for commuters coming from the Central Valley into the Bay Area, and vice versa. With connections to Capitol Corridor at Oakland, Emeryville, Richmond, Martinez, and Sacramento, and ACE connections at Stockton Cabral, one can easily take an all-railroad journey from Sacramento or Oakland to any of those railroad's station stops. BART connections can be made at Richmond. SRT (Sacramento Regional Transit) is also an available connection at Sacramento. Numerous stadiums and parks are accessible by Capitol Corridor trains, including the minor league Sacramento River Rats at the Sacramento station. Amtrak California provides bus services to many tourist destinations not served by San Joaquin stations.
