Operating along the UP Martinez and Roseville Subdivisions (in California), the California Zephyr route is once-daily "transcon" long -distance train traveling between Emeryville and Chicago, Illinois. With 32 intermediate stops between Emeryville and the windy city, this Amtrak-operated line one of the most popular Amtrak trains. Crossing 7 states and trekking across the Sierra Nevadas in California (Donner Pass), the Wasatch Mountains of Utah (Soldier Summit), and the Rockies of Colorado (Rollins Pass, "Moffat Route"). Leaving Emeryville eastbound in the morning, at 9:10am, the journey takes three days and two nights to complete, end-to-end. The California Zephyr also crosses the Utah Salt Flats, the Great Plains of the Midwest, and coming into urban Chicago is sure not to disappoint!
