August 26-30, 2019

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and is ready to get back to work. I am hoping PowerSchool will be actually working so we can get going and put in grades, attendance, and such. Everyone should have a textbook by now, if you do not; please go to the librarians ASAP. I will start assigning things from the book. If you have not signed up for the AP Classroom please do so immdediately. This is also designed for you to use this access for all your APs, even the ones in the future.

Next within your text book you will have 2 interactions. 1 is the initial read for knowledge and 2 is the detailed worksheets that accompany reading for understanding.

Every section and unit should be read twice. Once to get exposure to the information and 2nd to get an understanding of the knowledge. Each chapter is divided up into 4 Key Issues. A key issue is what you are supposed to be able to do by the end of the chapter. For example, Chapter 1 Key issue 1 (1.1) title is How do geographers describe where things are? Then there are two subheadings. The KI is what the chapter explains it is trying to do and the subheadings are simply put, the answers. So when you start to read, I want you to picture it like this. Geographers describe things by using maps and contemporary tools.

Then it goes into each concepts. Maps....Contemporary tools....

Next: always always read the introductions and the case studies. Example of case study is on page 7. Always read the image captions and always reference the map or image when it says to. Example on page 5in the 2nd paragraph, Rubenstein says look at Figure 1-3. Actually at that point go and look at the image and read the caption, then come back and finish reading it.

We will also have Chapter 1 test at the end of next week (not this week). This gives us 3 weeks on chapter 1.
