Noluthando Honono, is a postgraduate law student from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and is part of the Lead Magis Africa Power Panel, working on a campaign to get girls back in school post the Covid-19 pandemic and developing a proposal for a "return-to-school" program in South Africa.
Noluthando is an engaged young adult and deeply concerned about matters of social justice and sees young people providing some of the greatest signs of hope in Africa through their innovation and engagement in politics, economics, and policy. She draws deeply from the African concept of Ubuntu- humanity to others, or I am because we are. Noluthando describes Ubuntu as a “rooting principle,” that governs community interaction and promotes a willingness to assist one another toward justice and well being.
Noluthando has participated in several international conferences, the latest being The Bakhita Partnership for Education (BPE) conference in Lusaka, Zamabia, in May 2023. Noluthando was also a presenter for Canadian Jesuits International’s 2021 Y4O Symposium on Solidarity in a COVID-19 World.
She is passionate about competitive debate and is a prominent voice in the South African debating community and participated in the Worlds Universities Debating Championships in Cape Town in 2019. She addressed the issues of systemic racism in the debate community and the importance of creating accessibility for racialized people.
We look forward to Noluthando joining us as a keynote speaker for our 2023 Y4O Advocacy Symposium and Fall Campaign with the theme Education; Her Right, Our Future.
