Join us for the transformative journey of the Black/African Feminisms Conference on April 19th (virtually) and April 20th (in-person) 2024. This isn't just a conference; it's an invitation to immerse yourself in a vibrant tapestry of ideas, voices, and experiences.
Blackness defies a singular definition; it encompasses a rich spectrum of identities and narratives. In Canada, Black Canadians embody the diversity of African descent from the continent and its diaspora. We aim to create a space where these diverse perspectives can intertwine and flourish. Dr. Njoki Wane, a beacon of scholarly excellence and a visionary leader, conceived this conference. Her pioneering work traverses gender dynamics, colonial legacies, and the rich tapestry of Black Feminisms.
Under the overarching theme of "Black/African Health and Well-Being," many abstracts were submitted that range in topics: from reimagining health paradigms to nurturing spaces of healing and spirituality, from fostering empowerment to advocating for self-care and peacebuilding. Dr. Wane reminds us that while our experiences may differ, there's a collective yearning to weave together the threads of our shared heritage.
At the heart of our gathering lies the essence of Black Feminisms: a convergence of past struggles, present triumphs, and future aspirations. It's a rallying cry for solidarity—a call for Black Feminists worldwide to unite in a circle of strength, poised to dismantle barriers and reveal the splendour of our shared existence. Together, let's transcend boundaries, celebrate our stories, and empower generations yet to come.
