Professor Njoki Wane

Professor Njoki Wane is a distinguished scholar and educator in the areas of Black Feminisms, African Indigenous knowledges and spirituality, African and African Canadian women’s teaching and learning, anti-racism education and Anti-Black Racism. She has published 4 books, 18 edited volumes, and dozens of book chapters, and refereed journal articles. She has presented her work at over 300 conferences locally and internationally, often as a keynote speaker. Prof. Wane is the Chair of the Department of Social Justice Education, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. From 2011 to 2014, Professor Wane served as the University of Toronto’s Special Advisor on Status of Women Issues; 2018-2021 she also served as Special Advisor to Vice -President; Human Resources and Equity, contributing to research and policy development concerning the intersectionality of gender with race, disability, sexual orientation, and aboriginal status, and the impact of these issues on the lived experiences of women faculty, staff and students. She also served as Director, Center for Integrative Anti-Racism Studies (CIARS) at OISE from 2006 to 2014. She is currently serving as Co-Director for the Center for Black Studies in Education.
