Rachael Kalaba, Ph.D. Candidate – OISE, founder of ZamWILL, is an author and activist with extensive experience in international development and education, especially women and gender in Africa. She was named Chibwe Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch. She has been involved in sustainable development and social justice organizations as a pro bono advisor, project lead, coordinator, and community mobilizer. Her research focuses on African Indigenous Knowledge, African women's leadership, education policy, Ubuntu theory and practice, and Afro-feminism. Rachael's work with ZAMWILL has led to developing a women and girls Ubuntu Mentorship program supporting more than 150 girls in Zambia. She is also an educational consultant, supporting international development, gender, and girls’ education in Africa. Rachael is a Ph.D. Candidate Adult Education and Community at OISE – University of Toronto has presented her research topics at international conferences. She recently published a book chapter on the role of women leaders in Zambia in dismantling patriarchy using Ubuntu frameworks, which is part of her current dissertation work. Rachael holds a master’s in development practice, a master’s in management, a Bachelor of Arts in development, and a postgraduate diploma in responsible leadership and management from The Swedish Institute Management Programme.
