Samiera Zafar
Samiera Zafar is a South African residing in Canada. She is a Ph.D. student in the Social Justice Education program with a collaborative specialization in comparative international and development education at OISE, University of Toronto. Her research focus is on anti-racism and gender justice in education, anchored in decolonial approaches and drawing on Black Feminist Thought. She recently contributed a chapter entitled ‘An Anti-racism Education Lens on the School Curriculum in post-Apartheid South Africa’ in Afful-Broni, A., Anamuah-Mensah, J., Raheem, K., & Sefa, D. G. J. (2021). Africanizing the school curriculum: Promoting inclusive, decolonial education in African contexts. Myers Education Press. Samiera’s thesis proposal centers on teacher perspectives and practices concerning the inclusion of newcomer racialized refugee students in the K-12 context in Canada.
