I usuallly use Pigma Micron or Copic markers for drawing in black and white.

But I also own some "Dip Pens."

Dip Pens + Acrylic Ink

In May, I joined a swap on ATCsForAll.com. The theme was "Experiments with Acrylic Ink." It just so happens that I bought six bottles of Amsterdam Acrylic Ink for $2.50 each... in 2023....
The bottles appeared to be new, and still had Hobby Lobby $6.99 labels on them. I made a couple of cards and promptly forgot about acrylic ink.

Apparently, this ink keeps well. I opened the bright green ink in 2026 and it is bright and fluid and really fun to work with. Of course, the first thing I tried to draw was a "Doodle Cat." I have two different types of dip pen on hand. Both were thrift store purchases. I just looked up the glass dip pen and prices really vary: from a $6.99 Hobby Lobby set that includes two bottles of ink to a $28 Herbin Round Glass Tip Pen at Blicks! The calligraphy tips also vary widely in price. You can get started with a Hobby Lobby set for $4.50. But the KOH-I-NOOR # 127 holder that I like best is about $7, without nibs.

Legion 2.5 x 3.75 Tablets

I buy these little tablets from Jerry's Artarama. I just looked through my prodigious ATC records and found a screenshot of my first order: May 26, 2019.

Once, when on vacation in Savannah, Georgia, I found them at an actual brick and mortar Blick's store.

The sheets are 2.5" x 375", so they do need a little trimming, but that's easy if you have a paper cutter or good scissors!

Beware!

One of my favorite cards ever was this one. I started drawing on an un-trimmed piece of Stonehenge Black, and this was the result. I traded the card almost immediately, and I have shown this warning many times since October 2020!

Yupo

It is funny that the first picture I took of my Legion tablets did not include Yupo.

I probably buy more Yupo than any other Legion tablet. Yupo is a PAIN to cut... so the little tablets are most useful!

I just wish that Yupo was a little cheaper to buy in non-tablet form. When I work with kids, I just can not justify the almost-a-quarter price tag for each sheet.

More varieties....

Here are a couple more of the Legion tablets. What can I say? I just LOVE them!

The only one that I buy often that is not shown in the pictures is Stonehenge Aqua Coldpress Black. I've used all of it up for now. (BTW: hot press is the smoother watercolor paper. I like the texture of cold press.)

Watercolor Paper

I LOVE the watercolor paper tablets that are made by Legion. (See the article above this one: "Legion 2.5 x 3.5 Tablets."

When I first started buying the Legion tablets, I bought them through Jerry's Artarama. The retail price was $2.50 for ten sheets and Jerry's charged $1.99. The retail price is now 2.99, and Jerry's have gone up to $2.09. With tax added in, each sheet costs almost a quarter.

Now I don't mind spending a quarter on a little ATC that I can trade. But for PRACTICE....

So I ordered something cheaper on May 14. With tax, it comes to $16.38, but the 100 sleeves normally cost me about three cents each. So that takes the per card cost down to about half of the Legion cards. Worth a try! We shall see how it goes.
