Doodle Cats

I have been drawing "Doodle Cats" since 2021.

The basic design has evolved a bit over the years, but a doodle cat card has a distinctive look: many small cats, none of them very realistic, most of them somewhat fluid. Dots added to the background so that the cats show up better.

Usually the cards are black and white. Sometimes black on white paper. Sometimes white on black paper.

Very few of the hand-drawn doodle cats were drawn in color... until I started making hybrid cards.

Here are the Doodle Cats available for trading as of April 23, 2026:

First, we have DCH cards. DCH stands for Doodle Cat Hybrid. I drew the cats on my iPad, using Procreate. Then I printed the cards on white cardstock and colored them using alcohol markers. I have drawn nine different versions of the DCH image, and I never color them exactly the same. So each card is unique, but still part of a series.

DCH: GPPB

I use various naming conventions for the DCH cards. GPPB stands for Green, Purple, Pink, Blue in this case.

DCH: The Blues

As of April 23, 2026, I think this is the only card I ever printed on colored cardstock. I like it. I may try it again.

Doodle Card: Hybrid: printed b/w hand-colored

This one had a different label on the back. I am not sure when I made it. It is numbered AL-8, so I was volunteering at the Art Lab and planned to put it in the "pool swap."

DCH: Grabie

Probably the only DCH card I will color with acrylic markers. The original line drawings do not show through the acrylic, so I had to re-draw a large portion of the card. Not very efficient. But a good experiment.

Well... I didn't think this page through. When a card gets traded, I need to be able to replace the image with another card. Next time I'll do it better, but this is the same card as the one four images ago....

This was one of the few hand-drawn Doodle Cat cards that was drawn in color. It is dated 251019 and it is one of the last numbered ATCs I ever made: #2358

Doodle Cats, Purples 'n Blues

I was trying out my new Grabie Acrylic Markers, so of course I decided to make a Doodle Cat Card. The markers work well on the glossy, pre-cut blank playing cards I bought years ago. Only thirteen cats. No dots. It's not my favorite but maybe someone will like it some day.
