Bubble Nebula

The Bubble Nebula, officially known as NGC 7635, is a striking emission nebula located approximately 7,100 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia. What makes it truly fascinating is its ethereal, bubble-like structure, which gives it its name.

This delicate "bubble" is formed by the powerful stellar winds from a massive, hot star at its center, known as BD+60°2522. These winds push away the surrounding gas, creating a spherical cavity in the nebula. The glowing edges of the bubble are the result of ionized gas illuminated by the intense radiation of the central star.

The Bubble Nebula spans about 7 light-years across—roughly 1.5 times the distance from the Sun to Proxima Centauri. Despite its beauty, the nebula is a site of intense dynamism and energy, with shockwaves and turbulence sculpting its intricate details.

Its colors, which range from deep red to radiant orange and yellow, are particularly dazzling in astrophotography and result from the ionization of hydrogen and other elements.
