Local Organizations
There are few grassroots organizations in Utah. However, Planned Parenthood does have the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah that includes links and resources helpful for individuals both seeking abortion and looking to learn more about reproductive health and advocacy.
Utah Governor
There are many ways pro-choice supporters and organizers can fight for reproductive rights. We encourage individuals to support their local organizations, write to government representatives and vote for politicians that defend reproductive rights.
What's Happening in Utah?
As of now, individuals seeking an abortion in Utah must receive state mandated counseling 72 hours prior to getting an abortion. This counseling is designed to discourage going through with the abortion. Private insurance, public insurance, and insurance provided by the state's exchange for the Affordable Care Act only cover abortion in cases of rape, incest, severely compromised health or fetal impairment. However, there is public funding available for abortion in these cases. Minors must have parental consent before receiving and abortion. Abortions may be performed after viability in cases of severely compromised physical health, rape, incest or fetal impairment. Utah does require abortion clinics to meet unnecessary standards regarding their physical building, staff and equipment. If Roe v. Wade is overturned by the Supreme Court, then abortions in Utah will no longer be legal.
In the Legislature
There are no bills pertaining to abortion in the legislature at this time.
In the Courts
There are no current court cases regarding abortion in Utah. However, this state will enact a trigger law to make abortion illegal should Roe v. Wade be overturned. Please click HERE to tell about any information you may have.
