Local Organizations
The Red River Women's Clinic is the only abortion provider in the state of North Dakota. They provide legal abortions, aid patients with financing options and accept volunteers.
North Dakota Women in Need Abortion Action Fund
The North Dakota Women in Need Abortion Action Fund seeks to help those who cannot afford an abortion on their own. The cover the full cost of abortion for those who are survivors of rape. They oppose laws that restrict access to reproductive health care.
North Dakota Governor
There are many ways pro-choice supporters and organizers can fight for reproductive rights. We encourage individuals to support their local organizations, write to government representatives and vote for politicians that defend reproductive rights.
What's Happening in North Dakota?
As of now, abortion providers are required to have hospital admitting privileges at local hospitals. Individuals must receive state-mandated counseling 24-hours prior to their procedure. Information included in this counseling session is designed to discourage abortion. Private insurance companies and health plans offered under the state exchange under the Affordable Care Act cover abortion with the purchase of an additional rider, or in cases of life endangerment. Public health insurance covers abortion in cases of life endangerment. Telemedicine cannot be used to obtain a medication abortion. Minors must have parental consent before receiving an abortion, and public funds for abortions are available in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest. Abortions must be performed before the 22 week mark, except in cases of severely compromised health and life endangerment. Abortions on the case of sex selection or a genetic anomaly are prohibited. If Roe v. Wade is overturned by the Supreme Court, abortion will become illegal in North Dakota.
In the Legislature
There are no current bills regarding abortion in the legislature.
In the Courts
North Dakota has not had any court cases regarding abortion recently. However, this state will enact a trigger law to make abortion illegal should Roe v. Wade be overturned. Please click HERE to tell about any information you may have.
