Our Mission

On May 2^nd, a majority opinion draft leaked to Politico indicated that the United States Supreme Court could vote to overturn Roe v. Wade this summer. Decided in 1973, Roe v. Wade established an individual’s right to abortion across the country. If the Supreme Court carries through with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, decisions about reproductive rights will be given back to the states. In several states, this will mean a complete ban on abortion.

While not all states will face an immediate ban on abortion, the future of reproductive rights will be in question in several states across the country. As state governments and representatives change, so could an individual's right to choose.

At A Voice for Choice, we believe that all people should be able to make their own decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, including decisions about abortion. We also believe that access to comprehensive and attainable reproductive health care should not be limited based on an individual’s geographic location.

A State by State Look

The states shown in red either have pre-existing legislation that will become enforceable if Roe v. Wade is overturned, or, they have passed trigger laws that will go into effect if Roe v. Wade is overturned this summer.

Now is the time to organize and advocate for reproductive rights and healthcare.

This site offers information about 19 states, many of which have already begun placing restrictions on abortion. On each page, individuals can find information on a state-by-state basis about new and proposed legislation that affects abortion access. There are also links to information about important court proceedings regarding reproductive health. Individuals can also learn more about grassroots organizations in their area that are fighting for reproductive freedom. Finally, our site offers contact information for local representatives so that individuals can make their voices heard at home.

If decisions about reproductive rights are handed back to the states, then grassroot advocacy will be more important than ever. The fight for reproductive freedom starts at home, and it is far from over. Through education, information, and advocacy, we can continue working toward a future where there is always a choice.
