I am a retired Primary School Teacher, and I started painting over 30 years ago. For years, most of my painting was done when camping with the family. These little landscape water colours, although simple, cemented happy memories of holidays past. Today my main interest is still in landscape watercolours. Myself and my artist brother Ken, enjoy painting outdoors, mostly the Vale where there are many perfect views to paint. I also paint in acrylics and mixed media, and during the year I exhibit my work either as a solo exhibitor or part of a group.
The Holiday
On the back of this painting is the source BW photo I used. Date unknown, but in the past, as he’s in his suit with flat cap on, and an expression of someone who isn’t used to having his photo taken! His holiday to Barry, was probably a day trip, on the train. I gave him the chips to eat.
Acrylic on canvas. The materials for this piece are nearly 100% recycled materials. The canvas was rescued from Barry Recycling Centre and the frame was made from wood removed from a building renovation.
Dinosaur Footprints
Watercolour, a monochrome in Ultramarine Blue. Based on a series of photographs I took on Bendricks Beach, Barry. Preserved in the rocks are fossilised footprints, 220 million years old, made by a family of Theropods, probably on the lookout for a meal. And somewhere, nearby in the long grass, may have been a tiny shrew like mammal also looking for food. That Shrew is our very very distant ancestor, and I think you could fit a lot of necessity and desire in 220, 000 millenniums.
