The Art Life Society is a not-for-profit unincorporated association aimed at fostering interest and participation in the Visual Arts, aspiring to make the arts accessible to all. The Society provides opportunities to exhibit and engage in art-related activities. It was formed early in 2020 by a group of artists attending various classes across Cardiff and the Vale, facilitated by one of the founding members, Penelope Rose Anderson. The organization has continued to grow each year with new members joining regularly.

The name "Art Life Society" was devised by our Co-Chair and co-founder, Julie Peace.

The Society's initial plans were postponed due to the Covid lockdowns, but the seed had been planted. The group of artists remained in touch, holding Zoom meetings to discuss future ideas. In 2022, we were able to commence our activity schedule, offering free and subsidized events. These have included popular and successful En-Plein-Air trips to The Italian Gardens Penarth, Roath Park, St. Fagans, Dinas Powys Woods, and the National Museums of Wales. We even explored the basement archives, viewing rarely seen artwork and learning about the Museum's archival system.

Our first exhibition was held in July 2022 at the Pavilion at Penarth Pier. Last year, we collaborated with Cardiff University’s Astronomy Department to develop a unique exhibition combining Art and Science. The "Astroart-Origins" Exhibition, displayed during the National Astronomy Meeting at Cardiff University’s Centre for Student Life, celebrated the wonders of the cosmos through art. Other exhibitions have been held at Llanover Hall Art Centre, Dinas Powys and Rhoose libraries, and a railway café in Barry.

Our numbers are increasing rapidly, and we are going from strength to strength. Join us!
