Penelope Rose Anderson is a multimedia artist and researcher based in the Rhondda Valleys, South Wales. Working from her studio at The Arts Factory in Maerdy, her practice is rooted in place, memory, and the rhythms of everyday life. Penelope works across painting, drawing, digital media, installation, and participatory forms, responding intuitively to the materials, environments, and communities she engages with.
With a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Cardiff Metropolitan University and a PGCE in Further Education from the University of South Wales, Penelope has over two decades of experience in creative education and public engagement. She is currently undertaking a Master of Research (MRes) in Art & Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where her research explores bilateral art practices — focusing on how embodied, process-led making can activate dialogue between inner and outer worlds, self and other, place and memory.
A founding member and volunteer facilitator of the Art Life Society, Penelope supports inclusive, community-rooted arts programming. Her work has previously intersected with scientific and academic research, including collaborations with Cardiff University’s Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) and University College London’s Cosmoparticle Initiative.
Her current projects are shaped by a deepening connection to the landscapes and stories of the South Wales Valleys, and by an ongoing interest in how art can hold space for collective memory, ritual, and transformation. She continues to exhibit, teach, and collaborate across Wales and beyond, with recent and upcoming shows including a solo exhibition at Llanover Hall Art Centre (June–July 2025) and a group show with the Art Life Society at Turner Gallery, Penarth (September–October 2024).
