I modified this lesson (provided by Lucy Solazzo) to teach the 3rd grade students at Rosa Lee Carter Elementary the techniques of drawing three dimensional objects. We first reviewed our basic flat geometric shapes, then I demonstrated how each could be changed into an object with depth, width and height. Students manipulated and sketched these physical objects.
On the second day of this lesson, students were given supplies to create a project. They were to create patterns with contrasting colors on each object sitting on a checkered background. Extra points were given to students who added shadows behind their objects.
