Onesmus Rutaro–– Rutaro is a talented wood carver and photographer, dedicated to working in art that benefits conservation, finding inspiration in his love of mountain gorillas. He focuses his creative energies on wood sculpture and 3D relief of local wildlife for gorilla conservation through awareness campaigns and community involvement. Rutaro also donates his time to train children in art and conservation.
Onesmus is sharing his love of the mountain gorilla in a diversity of wood crafts, from gorilla carvings to earrings, to bas relief wall hangings. He has become a role model and leader in his community for not only demonstrating his commitment to his art but also to the many children in the community that have little to strive for. During school holidays he leads classes in drawing and painting, carving, and conservation.
