Odor Balancing

Learning Test

RESULTS INTERPRETATION

Though we expected to see a lack of preference in the odor balancing tests, the wild type flies showed a preference for MCH over OCT in the results. This preference has likely affected the Learning Test results, where MCH is higher. Based on this, we may have to re-evaluate how we conduted the Odor Balancing tests. In re-evaluating we can look at the test itself and the variables that may have affected results.

We serially diluted the MCH concentration 10-fold and then 100-fold. The last bar set in the Odor Balancing graph represents MCH serially diluted 100-fold. This 100-fold serial dilution of MCH appears to reduce the odor preference between MCH and OCT and can be used in the learning experiments in the future.
