Using AI Responsibly in Architectural Design

This page explains the ethical position taken when using AI in the reassessment of the Silent Transition Student Clubhouse project. AI was used as a support tool for reflection, exploration, and communication, but it was not treated as a final source of truth or as a replacement for the designer.

Because AI outputs can sometimes be general, inaccurate, biased, or disconnected from the real site context, every suggestion needed to be reviewed critically. The AI ideas were checked against the original project concept, site conditions, Malaysia’s tropical climate, student needs, and architectural practicality before being accepted.

The ethical responsibility remains with the designer. This means the final work must be original, properly evaluated, and guided by human judgment. In this project, AI helped expand the thinking process, but the final decisions were selected and adapted based on design intention, professional responsibility, and the Silent Transition concept.

ETHICAL POSITION

In this project, AI was used carefully as a design support system, not as a replacement for architectural thinking. The AI outputs were not copied directly or accepted automatically. Instead, each suggestion was reviewed, filtered, and adapted based on the Silent Transition concept, the campus site context, Malaysia’s tropical climate, student needs, and architectural practicality.

This ethical approach helped ensure that the final work remained original, relevant, and professionally responsible. AI supported the process by expanding ideas and improving communication, but the final decisions were made through human judgment, design intention, and responsibility as a future designer.

KEY STATEMENT

AI can support architectural design, but originality, responsibility, ethical awareness, and final design judgment must always remain with the designer.
