Understanding AI as a Support Tool, Not a Design Replacement

This page reflects on how AI was used during the reassessment of the Silent Transition Student Clubhouse project. AI helped me review the original proposal more critically by identifying areas that needed improvement, such as site response, environmental performance, spatial sequence, user experience, and visual communication.

However, AI was not treated as a final design authority. The AI outputs required careful evaluation because some suggestions were too general, unrealistic, or not fully connected to the actual project context. Therefore, each idea was reviewed, filtered, and adapted based on the original concept, site conditions, Malaysia’s tropical climate, student needs, and architectural logic.

The most important lesson from this process is that AI can expand design thinking, but it cannot replace human understanding. Architectural design still requires judgment, responsibility, creativity, and awareness of real users and context. In this project, AI supported the thinking process, while the final decisions remained guided by human architectural judgment.
