Welcome to my blog! I’m Anouk Govil, lover of sun, sand, and sea. As a biology major, there are days when I’m just working inside the laboratory. But during weekends I make sure to spend some time under the sun and with nature. If you want to boost your health, perhaps it’s time to soak up the sun. Check out these health benefits of sunlight:
Better brain function
Vitamin D from sunlight promotes the development of nerve cells in the hippocampus, a part of the brain that is responsible for the formation and storage of memories.
Improves mood
Being exposed to sunlight contributes to the production of the hormone serotonin, which is responsible for improving mood while increasing a person’s focus. While this might not be the complete cure, those who experience seasonal affective disorders and seasonal depression experience relief from their mood swings after spending time under the sun.
Strengthen the immune system
As Anouk Govil the biologist, sometimes I’m exposed to various viruses and bacteria in the laboratory. Being indoors for days can sometimes affect resistance. With the right amount of sun exposure, the body’s capacity to fight off sicknesses increases.
Lowers blood pressure
Healthy levels of UV rays release nitric oxide that can lower blood pressure. Spending at least an hour under the sun expands the blood vessels as the oxide moves into the bloodstream, preventing hypertension.
Coupled with exercise and fun activities, spending time under the sun will be worth your while.
