Grim Glyphweaver was born with underdeveloped legs to his farmer mother and father. The family believed Grim's disability was a punishment by the gods for some wrong they must have committed, the family abandoned Grim in the forest. An old sorcerer living in the caves, found Grim and raised him. The old man taught Grim the art of sorcerery, passing down his legacy to the boy. The old sorcerer also had prosthetic legs made by a blacksmith so that Grim could walk on his own, albeit slowly. He can remove them, connect the and use them as nunchucks. The  prosethetics are imbued with magic so that when lost, they always reappear to him. He can remove them.

Early on, Grim found a unicorn and killed it for its magical horn, discarding it's carcass. He immediately bound the horn into his magic flying broom to gain the unicorn's power. By doing so, the  unicorn's soul became bound to Grim . The angry unicorn spirit now haunts Grim at every moment. The tiny unicorn, Ursula, follows Grim everywhere. No one else can see or hear Ursula except Grim. Ursula berrates Grim constantly, spewing hate and discontent to him. She constantly belittles him, tellsing him he's stupid and that he will fail everything he tries. She never lets up until he releases the horn from the binding to his broom and sets her spirit free.
